Townsville has an airport and is on the east coast coach and train route. The ferry to Magnetic Island leaves from the Breakwater Terminal and takes about 20 minutes. On the island, buses run between the bays, and rental cars are small open-top cars.
May to October is the dry season, with pleasant temperatures and no jellyfish risk. From November to May jellyfish drift in the water — only swim in stinger nets or in a stinger suit. The wet season is hot and humid.

The track leads to Second World War positions with views over the island — and on the way wild koalas often sit in the eucalyptus trees. One of the best places in Australia to see koalas in the wild. Best in the morning. Don't touch or feed the koalas; keep at least 10 metres away.
In the evening, rock wallabies appear on the rocks by the water. Don't give them human food — follow the signs on site. Most beautiful at sunset.

A secluded bay, reachable only on foot or via a gravel track. Rental cars often aren't allowed on the track — better to walk. In the morning you'll often have the bay to yourself.
